Nov 1-4 Canadian Restaurant Industry Investment & Leadership Summit – join us there!

As vaccination rates go up and health regulations ease, what’s the outlook for Canada’s restaurant industry?

Statistics Canada reported that July 2021 sales were up 11% compared to June 2021, and 28.5% YoY – almost to pre-pandemic levels. Restaurants Canada recently reported that full service restaurants alone are forecast to have sales increases of 37.5% from 2021 Q1 to the end of 2022.

However, Restaurants Canada also reported that Canada’s tourism revenues won’t return to pre-pandemic levels until the end of 2025, and we’ve seen recent re-tightening of health regulations. At the same time, Global News reported that in the middle of summer, employers in accommodation and food services alone were trying to fill 132,800 jobs, accounting for the highest job vacancy rate the industry has ever seen (11.6%).

Navigating the route to a new normal, while balancing the potential for major growth against a changing guest mix and significant labour shortages, means restaurant operators will be looking for restaurant industry professionals who are on top of restaurant performance and economic data and trends.
