As retail re-emerges and adjusts to our new normal, the key question is – what’s next?

From store closures to supply chain challenges and now labour shortages, the pandemic has handed retailers challenge after challenge. As retail re-emerges, overcoming those challenges and turning them into opportunities will be the key to delivering on the ongoing need to compete and grow.

The latest results reported by the Retail Council of Canada show that in May of this year core retail grew 11.6% YoY, with individual retail sectors growing from to -1% to +80%. SafeGraph reported that foot traffic in Canada grew 44% in June 2021 over June 2019, after growing 19% in May 2021 over May 2019.  The question is, how have retailers been able to take advantage of the increased traffic to deliver that kind of growth – and what can they do in the future?
