Lift – visit Canada’s key Cannabis Business Conference & Expo on June 6-9!
Hear from industry leaders about the new focus on consumers, operations and efficiencies
There is still massive growth predicted — from $151M in the first 2 ½ months of sales to over $5B in annual sales by the end of 2021. And the industry is still in startup mode as regulations develop and change, products advance as a result, and brands build.
But the foundations have been put in place. Initial regulations have been put in place and cannabis companies have reached billions of dollars in market cap. Real estate has been secured for hundreds of locations, brands have been established, and initial rounds of licenses have been granted so some stores are in operation. There is also a major focus on balancing supply with demand.
The cannabis industry will need to build on these foundations to deliver on growth predictions, adding a new emphasis on the solid operations and efficiencies required to achieve needed scale. That will include incorporating new processed consumer goods into the cannabis product mix. As pioneers in a worldwide movement, Canadian cannabis companies will need to draw on the resources and experience of other established industries in retail, food service, food & beverage manufacturing, CPG and more to develop brands with global potential.
This represents a unique opportunity for Canadian retailers to learn from a brand new retail sector building in a hyper-growth market.
