Colliers’ 2022 Canadian Hotel Investment Report stated that 2021 hotel transaction activity was up over 13.9% from 2019 and over double 2020. STR reported that 2021 occupancy rates were up 9 points over 2020, to 42%, and average rates per room were up 6%, to $139. The Federal Government’s Budget 2022 released on April 7 is based on predictions of strong growth, high vaccination rates and continued lifting of travel restrictions, and contains over $1 billion to support Canada’s tourism industry. On March 30, Deloitte’s Consumer Sentiment Tracker reported that despite concerns about inflation, 40% of Canadian consumers planned to spend on leisure travel within the next 4 weeks.
