Retail West November 6 - from the USMCA to new Cannabis retailers, and more!

Positive signs from store traffic through NAFTA, to the brand new recreational cannabis sector

According to the recent Retail Conditions report by the Retail Council of Canada, Canadian retailers are “cautiously optimistic”. 2018 has delivered steady year-over-year increases every month, the rate of decrease in traffic has slowed dramatically to the low single digits, and conversion rates are in the high double digits. The uncertainty around NAFTA has ended, and while the de minimus has increased, sales tax has been decoupled from duty and the increase there was a lot less. Recreational cannabis has been legalized, opening up what is potentially a huge retail market, and Canada’s overall economic growth forecasts remain positive.

Positive signs mean opportunities – so what are they, and how can we take advantage of them?
